Force-restart it, free up some storage and install any updates. If it won’t power on, charge it for 30 minutes with a cable you know works. If it still stays black, restarts in a loop or gets hot while idle, bring it in. The fault may be one component on the board, not the whole phone.

Phone Repair Services We Offer
A mobile repair shop replaces or repairs the parts that fail most often (glass, display, battery, charging port, camera and audio parts) and diagnoses faults that aren’t obvious from the outside. These are the jobs we see every week. The final price depends on your model and the part, so we quote at the counter once a technician has looked at the phone.
| Repair | Typical signs | What happens | Typical timeframe |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screen and display replacement | Cracks, lines, black or green patches, touch dead in one area | We check whether only the glass or the display underneath is damaged, then quote | Often same day when the part is in stock |
| Battery replacement | Dies by mid-afternoon, shuts off with charge left, case suddenly tight | Battery tested first to confirm it's the cause | Often same day |
| Charging port repair | Charges only at an angle, or not at all | Port cleaned first; replaced only if it's worn or damaged | Often same day |
| Water damage assessment | Phone was dropped in water, the sea or a drink | Opened, dried and checked for corrosion; quote for what can be repaired | Can take a day or two |
| Back glass replacement | Cracked rear panel | Rear panel replaced | Depends on model |
| Camera and lens repair | Blurry photos, black camera app, cracked lens | Lens or camera module replaced | Often same day |
| Speaker and microphone repair | Muffled calls, no ringtone, people can't hear you | Blockage cleared or part replaced | Often same day |
| Software and diagnostics | Freezing, boot loops, very slow | Software fixed, or hardware fault identified | Varies |
| Board-level repair | Phone dead after a drop or liquid, no power, no signal | On some faults we can solder or replace components on the main board. Ask whether it's possible for your model | Varies; quoted after inspection |
Common jobs often take 30 to 90 minutes. Liquid damage and less common models can take longer.
Brands and Devices We Repair
We repair most phones that come through the door. Each brand page below lists models and brand-specific faults, so this page stays short.
- Apple iPhone: the most common repairs we do are iPhone screens and batteries. Model list and iPhone-specific faults are on our iPhone repairs page.
- Samsung Galaxy: curved and foldable screens need their own parts and handling. Samsung phone repairs covers the Galaxy range.
- Google Pixel: screen, battery and port work on Pixel models. Google Pixel repairs.
- LG: older LG handsets are still worth fixing when parts are available. LG phone repairs.
- Oppo, Huawei, Sony Xperia, Nokia, HTC, Motorola and other Android phones: call first for less common models so we can check stock. Oppo, Huawei and other Android repairs.
- Tablets: iPad repairs and Galaxy Tab and other Samsung tablet repairs.
- Other devices: we also handle Apple Watch screen repairs and Mac and MacBook repairs at the same counter.
Common Phone Problems: What to Do First and When to Bring It In
Most phone faults give you a warning before they become expensive. This is what we’d tell a friend on the phone, whatever brand they own.
Back up your phone while the touchscreen still works. Cover sharp edges with a screen protector or clear tape, and don’t press on the crack. Bring it in if you see lines or colour patches, touch stops working in one area, or the glass starts lifting from the frame.
Batteries wear out with age and heat. Check Battery Health on an iPhone, or the battery test in the Samsung Members app. If the screen lifts or the back bulges, stop charging and using the phone straight away. A swollen battery is a safety risk, so bring it in and don’t try to remove it yourself.
Try another cable and wall adapter first. Then switch the phone off and gently ease out lint with a wooden toothpick, never anything metal. If it only charges at an angle, the port is worn. Bring it in if a different cable doesn’t fix it.
Switch it off, take the case off and dry the outside. Don’t charge it, don’t use a hairdryer, and skip the rice, because it doesn’t draw water out. Salt water and sugary drinks corrode fastest. Bring it in quickly, as early inspection gives the best chance of saving the phone and your photos.
Remove the case and screen protector, clean the screen and restart. If it only happens while charging, try a different charger. Lines, flickering or a dead patch after a drop usually mean the display is damaged. Back up first, then bring it in.
Check that Bluetooth isn’t still connected to earbuds. Gently brush the speaker and mic holes with a soft dry toothbrush, and wipe the lens with a microfibre cloth. A cracked lens cover alone can cause blur. Bring it in if sound stays muffled or the camera app shows black.

Choosing a Mobile Phone Repair Shop: Common Problems and How to Avoid Them
Whoever fixes your phone, these are the things that most often go wrong with repairs, and the question that prevents each one.
- Unclear quotes and surprise charges. Ask for the price before any work starts, and ask what happens if the technician finds a second fault once the phone is open. A good shop stops and calls you before going further.
- Unknown part quality. Repair parts range from manufacturer originals to tested third-party parts to cheap copies, and the words shops use (“genuine-grade”, “premium”, “OEM quality”) aren’t regulated. Ask plainly: is this part from the manufacturer or not, and how has it been tested? On some recent iPhones a non-Apple screen or battery shows an “unknown part” message in Settings; it’s worth knowing before the repair, not after.
- Vague or missing warranty. Ask how long the warranty runs, whether it covers parts and labour, and what voids it. Keep your receipt. Remember that a shop warranty is extra: under the Australian Consumer Law, repair services must be provided with due care and skill and within a reasonable time, and those consumer guarantees apply automatically, whatever warranty a shop offers (ACCC: consumer rights and guarantees).
- Data and privacy worries. Back up before any repair. Most screen, battery and port jobs don’t touch stored data, but the technician needs to test calls, touch and the camera afterwards, which is why shops ask for a passcode. If you’re not comfortable sharing it, ask whether they can test with you present.
- Slow or uncertain turnaround. Ask whether the part is in stock today. “Same day” usually depends on stock, so a quick call before you travel saves a wasted trip.
- Reviews you can’t check. Look for a real street address and recent, detailed reviews on Google, including how the shop replies to critical ones. A wall of identical five-star comments tells you less than a few specific ones.
Which repair route suits your phone?
| Option | Best for | Things to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Walk-in mobile phone repair shop | Out-of-warranty damage, quick screen, battery and port jobs, older or less common brands | Ask about part type and warranty; turnaround depends on stock |
| Apple, Samsung or an authorised service provider | Phones still under the manufacturer's warranty or AppleCare+, manufacturing defects, recalls | Covered faults may cost little or nothing; can mean booking ahead or sending the phone away; manufacturers may exclude damage caused by a third-party repair from later warranty claims, so check first |
| Mobile (come-to-you) technician | People who can't travel | Fewer parts carried on the van; complex or liquid jobs may still go back to a workshop |
| Mail-in repair | Remote areas, specialist jobs | Postage time both ways and risk in transit; you're without the phone for longer |
If your phone is still under the manufacturer’s warranty or AppleCare+, check with Apple or Samsung before any third-party repair.
Questions to ask any repair shop before you hand over your phone
- What will it cost, and will you call me before doing anything extra?
- Is the part from the manufacturer, and if not, how is it tested?
- How long is the warranty, does it cover parts and labour, and what voids it?
- Is the part in stock today, and how long will it take?
- Do I need to give you my passcode, and what will you access?
- What happens, and what do I pay, if you can’t fix it?
How a Repair Works at Smartfone
- Walk in or call first. Come in any day during opening hours; no booking is needed. For an older or less common model, ring us first so we can check the part is on the shelf.
- We find the cause and quote. A technician checks what’s behind the symptom, then tells you the price, which part we’d fit and how long it should take. Nothing starts until you say yes.
- Repair and testing. We carry out the repair and test calls, touch, camera and charging before the phone comes back to you. Bring your passcode so we can test properly.
- Collect it with your receipt. Your receipt is your warranty record for the 3-month warranty.
- If it can’t be fixed. You don’t pay for the attempt. We’ll explain why, and whether anything can still be done, such as recovering photos and files.
Parts, Warranty and Your Data
- Parts. We fit quality-tested replacement parts. They aren’t always manufacturer originals, so if that matters to you, ask which part your quote is for and we’ll tell you before the work starts.
- Warranty. Every repair carries a 3-month warranty on the parts we replaced and the labour for that job. To claim, bring your receipt or a bank statement showing the payment to Smart Fone Communication. It doesn’t cover new drops or accidental damage, liquid damage after the repair, or misuse. This warranty sits alongside your rights under the Australian Consumer Law; it doesn’t replace them.
- Your data. Screen, battery and charging-port repairs don’t normally touch what’s stored on the phone. Back up anyway, especially after water damage, because liquid can cause failures nobody can predict.
- Board-level work. Some faults sit on the main board rather than a replaceable part. On some of these we can solder or replace components, which can save a phone that would otherwise be written off. Whether it’s possible depends on the model and the damage, so we confirm after inspection.
